Research: UAV-based Detection of Underwater Objects

 

The identification of underwater objects is possible through several ways like SONAR as well as magnetic detection. Modern unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) allow to test magnetic measurements in underwater environments without relying on a ship. Some challenges can arise for the needed equipment with magnetic sensors (magnetometers), the control of an actively flying UAV and the (digital) signal processing. Noise reduction, autonomous data collection and its presentation are the main topics of the research. Applications range from locating historical munitions to monitor military actions, e.g. submarines.
