Research: Investigation of Distributed Self-Sufficient Acoustic Underwater Sensors

Harbor surveillance is an important topic that has become relevant due to current challenges. The detection of underwater objects is often done by single systems, which include components such as actuators (projectors) and sensors (hydrophones). Single systems are often limited by the number of actuators and sensors, which leads to a difficult task for underwater object detection. Therefore, a distributed system with several sensors and actuators nodes will be used to improve the detection of objects.

The purpose is to design and develop algorithms for an enhanced ad-hoc surveillance system using distributed nodes. To achieve this, different SONAR techniques like passive, active and MIMO, will be utilized to create and compare different systems them. Additionally, other sensors, such as vector sensors, will be investigated for object detection and their potential to be used in distributed systems.
